After our great performance in the 2008 Rhino Charge, the Pinks are back for 2009 and definitely have ‘Charge Fever’. The original members of the team are all here, and we have added one more team member: Sophie Govani. Our car, Miss Pinkie, is also much improved.
Please support Car no. 18, an all-girls team.
The hundreds of people that enter the Rhino Charge enter for various reasons but have a single aim that brings us all together – to raise funds for the conservation efforts in the Aberdares through the Rhino Ark Foundation.
Just to give you some insight into these efforts, as you know, the ecosystem of the Aberdares is precious to Kenya for many reasons, and below we mention just two:
- Water - Virtually, every drop of water in Nairobi’s pipes can trace its origin to the Aberdares and yet, this precious natural resource, although much has been done, is still in need of our aid in the fight for its protection.
- Wildlife – Countless acres are being cut down leading to the human-wildlife conflict due to the encroachment. We as Kenyans have created this situation so it is up to us to remedy it.
Car no. 18 “Pinks in Charge!” comprises of 6 team members – Caroline Armstrong, Mary-Ann Kirubi, Elodie Sampéré, Patricia Wena, Linda Karuru and Sophie Govani. We’re a group of new and old friends to whom Kenya is a treasure that we must protect. We thoroughly enjoy nature and the environment and therefore are willing to push all our boundaries to make a difference for it. Our “bundu bashing” vehicle is a modified 3.5 litre V8 Range Rover engine. |
