Our Team!

The Pinks in Charge! comprises of 6 team members. We’re a group of new and old friends to whom Kenya is a treasure that we must protect. Last year, our first Rhino Charge, brought our team closer together than we could have possibly imagined. We continue to improve our team spirit and dedication as we prepare for the 2009 Rhino Charge.

Caroline Armstrong
Being a career banker Caroline breaks the mould and truly enjoys outdoor activities, from bungee jumping to gliding and now the Rhino Charge! She has driven in off road competitions before, but none as hard as the Charge. As she says “Doing the Rhino Charge is about testing myself and my spirit, while having a fun-filled, hard day out in a breathtaking location. All the while, raising money to protect the country we live in and love. It doesn’t get better than that.”.

Mary-Ann Musangi
Rhino Charge is not new to Mary-Ann Kirubi who has participated in the last two charges. The initial 2006 event was extremely successful with her then team finishing 9 out of the 13 checkpoints. She was the only lady in her previous team. After an unsuccessful start in 2007 – caused by a weak fuel pump, she decided that sisters can do it for themselves. It became her ambition to put together an all girls team. The key motivator for Mary-Ann’s persistence to participate in the Rhino Charge is her love for wildlife and tourism. She always seeks challenges, “the harder they get the more ones character develops.”

Elodie Sampéré
A native of Marseille, France, Elodie has lived in Kenya for about 4 years now and is the Head of Conservation Marketing for the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Elodie is a big fan of motorsport and is building a classic rally car to participate in the Kenya Championship next year. This is her third Rhino Charge. Elodie is proud to be part of a team of such strong, powerful and committed women.

Pat Wena

Pat Wena

Born in Kenya, Pat enjoys outdoor sport and a challenge, which the Rhino Charge will provide in abundance. The fact that it goes towards something close to her heart – conservation – makes it completely worthwhile. She is proud of doing something that will benefit Kenyans for generations! (Pat is a mother of two!)

Linda Karuru
Linda is a TV producer with Sounds and Pictures in Nairobi. Linda admits that through the years she has always been a spectator of the Rhino Charge giving moral support to various teams. When she was asked to join the Pinks In Charge, she did not even hesitate to respond. “I have always wanted to participate in the Rhino Charge but never found a team that needed someone like me” says Linda. Linda is has avid love for motor sports. She has been a member of the East Africa Motor Sports Club for several years and in 2008 she was elected to be a member of their board. Part of her responsibilities within the club has been to manage Motocross and Enduro Championships.

Sophie Govani

Sophie Govani

Sophie is the latest member of our team, joining us for the 2009 Rhino Charge. Sophie moved back to Kenya a couple of years ago and thanks to the wonderful new friends she has made since, she has had the privilege of spending much time in the bush and experiencing different aspects of the country. Her most exciting experiences have been a 10-day circuit up to Sibiloi National Park (Turkana), climbing to the summit of Mount Kenya, Sky Diving in Diani and the ear-notching of black rhinos on the Ol Pejeta Conservancy! She is extremely proud to be able to take part in this year’s Rhino Charge, not only as a member of such a dynamic and exceptional team, but also as a direct participant in the strive to preserve Kenya’s extraordinary yet fragile resources.
